About us

A safe and inclusive environment for children to develop lifelong skills.

Responsive environments: Everyday experiences, interactions, and routines enhanced with ample time, space, and materials for exploration.

We endeavour to support our children and families by enhancing the continuity of the child and families’ experience during the many transitions that occur in the early childhood years: the daily transitions within program, as well as transitions between program and into formal school settings. We value the diverse ways that children engage with others, ideas, materials, and the world.

The core elements of our play-based philosophy involves learning through play, merged with the principles of emergent curriculum and child-led play. Enhancement of skills in all areas of development- social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional-will be addressed by incorporating a variety of planned and spontaneous activities.

Our holistic play-based goals for early learning and care include: Well-being, Play and Playfulness, Communication and Literacies, and Diversity and Social Responsibility. They will be supported by our reflection and planning of learning experiences. These experiences will further connect and expand children’s interests. The educators will plan with young children by noticing children’s interests. Topics may include: nature, people, places, objects; print, stories, numbers, shapes, and patterns, and making connections between these experiences; and early literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, music, and art. This collaborative curriculum will be made visible to others.

We support the development of friendships, problem-solving skills, self-awareness and self-expression, and a positive sense of self and others. Children will be assisted in developing their conflict resolution skills as a part of their social development. Educators will role model respectful interactions with other adults and children. Allowing children to use their own abilities, skills, and talent is an essential part of the program. Opportunities are provided to the children to allow them to be able to use their own abilities, skills and talents. Children are encouraged to try new things on their own. Staff are responsive to children’s abilities and needs for assistance. Staff ensures that children of all abilities can participate in the activities.

Children learn from their environment, which acts as their first teacher. Adults play a key role in shaping positive experiences that support their overall development.

Inclusive

We commit to an environment which will accept each unique child in their developmental journey, personalities, and skills. It will be our responsibility to ensure that every child will feel a sense of love and belonging. Activities will be tailored to the skill level of each child to encourage participation and skill development.

Responsible

We will adopt holistic play-based goals for children’s responsive care, play, learning, and development. Children’s well-being, play and playfulness with others is purposefully designed in the indoor environment. Children continue to learn communication through opportunities to express and develop ideas with others. They will gain a sense of diversity and social responsibility in a three-pronged approach: 1) by learning about their own and others’ identities; 2) by exploring their responsibility to themselves, one another, and the environment; and 3) by fostering their emerging understanding of themselves as citizens.

Respectful

The educators will demonstrate care, respect, honor, sharing, and thoughtful listening to gain knowledge and appreciation of family, social, and cultural practices and traditions. We acknowledge that families know their children in ways that no one else can. Educators will recognize the value of family connections and contributions in understanding how each child makes meaning of the world.

Collaborative

The relationships between educators, children, and families are primary and we will build relationships with other community members to support and strengthen the experiences of families and children within the early childhood community. We will work in relationships with colleagues to share information and to collaborate on planning for care routines and children’s play, learning, and development.
